The choir helps lift the congregation’s spirit and focus on the glory of God through easy-to-sing and inspirational songs. Membership in the parish choir is open to high school students (9-12) and adults. Potential members must arrange for an audition with the director of music ministries. Previous choral experience is preferred, but not required.
Cantors are qualified vocalists who lead the assembly in its song & prayer. Part of the cantor's liturgical art includes proclamation of the Word during the singing of the Psalms. Music reading is preferred, and an audition with the director of music in required.
Membership in children's choir is open to all children of the parish (parishioners who attend Catholic Schools or homeschool, as well as those students who attend CCD, Family Catechesis & Ignite) to join the Children's Choir. All students must audition for the director of music ministries.
At Assumption, rehearsals are held each Sunday at 10am. The children usually sing twice a month for Sunday Mass, from September to May, as well as for a special Christmas Concert in December.
At St. John Neumann, rehearsals are scheduled for Sundays between the 9:30 & 11:30am Masses. The children usually sing once a month and then every week in Advent/Christmas and Lent/Easter.
For the past 20 years, the Folk Group have been supporting Masses at Sacred Heart by providing upbeat, inspirational music that is easy to sing-along to. Our mixed menu of hymns is a reflection of the harmony and diversity of the universal Church. Throughout the group’s tenure, many parishioners, students, invited guests and special performance musicians have accompanied the liturgy. All instruments and singers are welcome, even if you know little to nothing about music. Over the years, musicians have included guitars, bass, harmonic, piano, clarinet, flute, saxophone and many others. Vocal styles have ranged from pop to opera.
If you’re interested in joining or learning more about the Folk Group, please contact Lloyd Corder at 412.337.6613 or [email protected] Practices are scheduled monthly, typically the week before the Mass, and songs are selected based on the readings, prayers, and observances for that Sunday.
Psalm 150 instructs us to: "praise Him with harp and lyre", "praise Him with strings and pipes" and "Let everything that has breath give praise to the LORD!" If you would like to give joyful praise to God through song in the prayer of the Mass, come join us!
My heart, O God, is steadfast, my heart is steadfast; I will sing and make music.
