The Holy Thursday Church tour is a mini-pilgrimage symbolic of the ancient practice of visiting the seven basilicas of Rome as an act of penance. The goal is to spend a few minutes in each church, praying before the Blessed Sacrament, and keeping vigil on the night that Jesus prayed in the Garden of Gethsemane before his arrest, asking his disciples to stay awake with him.
On Holy Thursday, April 6th a bus will leave from Assumption immediately following the 7:00 pm Mass of the Lord's Supper. Due to time contraints, our pilgrimage will include a brief visit to five local churches, St. Alexis, St. Alphonsus, St. Theresa of Avila, St. Sebastian and St. Athanasius churches, all located in the North Hills area.
Call the rectory at (412) 766-6660 to make a reservation or for more details. The cost is $10 per person and seating is limited.
Join us Friday, April 7th, Good Friday at 7 pm for Tenebrae at Assumption Church.
"Tenebrae" is Latin for “shadows” or “darkness”. The Tenebrae Service will feature the Assumption Schola and guest singers, recreating the emotional aspects of the passion narrative of Jesus. The Tenebrae liturgy is taken from Matins and Lauds, the first two hours of the traditional Divine Office, as well as readings from the New Testament, writings of saints, and the Lamentations of Jeremiah.
